It was an up and down weekend for PREMA Theodore Racing at Hockenheim. The Italian squad lined-up for the second round of the ADAC Formel 4 championship with a four-car roster but faced hard luck with a tough qualifying experience plus some unfortunate incidents throughout the races. Nonetheless, the team’s stable was able to secure a podium finish overall with British ace Olli Caldwell, plus a triple second place among rookies with Australian Jack Doohan, who started off his Prema adventure with a bang. The two Brazilians from the Ferrari Driver Academy, Enzo Fittipaldi and Gianluca Petecof were among the less lucky of the field. Fittipaldi struggled in qualifying and then had to start from the back of the pack in race 3 due to a contact in the previous heat. Nonetheless, he put up an impressive recovery up to P7. Petecof was hampered by two incidents in race 1 and 2 before climbing up to P9 overall in race 3.

Gianluca Petecof, #5

Qualifying 1: P14                   Fastest Lap: 1:42.192
Qualifying 2: P7                     Fastest Lap: 1:41.705
Starting Grid Race 1: P14     Race 1: DNF
Starting Grid Race 2: P7       Race 2: P18
Starting Grid Race 3: P18     Race 3: P9

“Pretty tough weekend for us, we were struggling a bit with pace especially with new tires in FPs and also qualy. The result of qualy 1 was not the one we were expecting at all, ending up P14. We made a change on the car for qualy 2 and recovered some pace up to P7, with the best time for the Prema cars which was positive. In race 1 somebody clipped my rear right tire in the first corner and I had a puncture so I retired in lap 1. In race 2 we were there, fighting for the top-5, but I had an incident, losing my front wing. I ended up with a good pace but still one lap behind. Race 3 was positive. All the Prema cars were starting from the back due to some incidents but I recovered well from P18 to P9, finishing in the points. Again strong pace, the same as the guys in front. We are very confident going into next weekend’s round at Paul Ricard, we tested there before so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Jack Doohan, #33

Qualifying 1: P12                   Fastest Lap: 1:41.974
Qualifying 2: P8                     Fastest Lap: 1:41.744
Starting Grid Race 1: P12     Race 1: P8
Starting Grid Race 2: P8       Race 2: P6
Starting Grid Race 3: P3       Race 3: P5

“Qualifying 1 wasn’t the best, I struggled to put everything together which resolved in me being 12th. Qualifying 2 was a little bit better but unfortunately, some traffic kept us from achieving a second row start so we ended 8th. In Race 1 the pace was good, we came from 12th to 8th. Race 2 was even better, having plenty of speed but just getting held up a little bit coming from 8th to 6th. Race 3 was very tough. I struggled with the tyres a lot and was in P3 with 4 laps to go but couldn’t hold the other drivers off so we ended P5.”

Olli Caldwell, #64

Qualifying 1: P4                       Fastest Lap: 1:41.725
Qualifying 2: P12                     Fastest Lap: 1:41.803
Starting Grid Race 1: P4         Race 1: P3
Starting Grid Race 2: P12       Race 2: P15
Starting Grid Race 3: P15       Race 3: P10

“We started the weekend off well with a P3 in race one but unfortunately had a contact in race two and then struggled with tires in race 3. Our overall pace was very good and now looking to carry it on to the next rounds.”

Enzo Fittipaldi, #74

Qualifying 1: P6                       Fastest Lap: 1:41.782
Qualifying 2: P10                     Fastest Lap: 1:41.775
Starting Grid Race 1: P6         Race 1: P5
Starting Grid Race 2: P10       Race 2: DNF
Starting Grid Race 3: P19       Race 3: P7

“We didn’t have the best weekend because we struggled a bit in qualifying and that kind of messed us up for the first two races in which we started P6 and P10. In race 1 we managed to move up at the start but then we got a penalty and had to give back the positions, finishing P5. In race 2 we put together another brilliant start but we made contact with another competitor during the opening lap and that messed us up for race 3 as we had to start last. We went from the back to P7 so it was a very good race and the car was great. This wasn’t our weekend but I’m really looking forward to the next at Paul Ricard.”
